Taps repaired or replaced!

We Repair All Types of Leaking Taps

Not every leaking tap is caused by a worn washer.

Modern homes can have several different types of tapware, and the right repair depends on the tap itself and exactly where the water is escaping.

Born Plumbing can diagnose and repair:

  • Kitchen mixer taps
  • Bathroom basin taps
  • Shower taps
  • Bath taps
  • Laundry taps
  • Outdoor and garden taps
  • Quarter-turn taps
  • Traditional washer taps
  • Ceramic disc taps
  • Flick mixers
  • Leaking tap handles and spindles
  • Loose or damaged tapware
  • Taps leaking underneath sinks or benches

Sometimes a relatively inexpensive internal component is all that’s needed. Other times, particularly with older, damaged or heavily corroded tapware, replacement can be the better long-term option.

We’ll tell you which makes more sense before going ahead.

Why Is My Tap Leaking?

A dripping tap doesn’t automatically mean the entire tap needs replacing.

The location of the leak often gives us a good indication of what’s wrong.

Tap Dripping From the Spout

If water continues to drip from the spout after you’ve completely turned the tap off, there may be an issue with the washer, valve, ceramic cartridge or tap seat.

Simply tightening the tap harder usually isn’t the answer and can sometimes place additional strain on the internal components.

Water Leaking Around the Handle

Water appearing around the tap handle or spindle can point towards worn seals, O-rings or internal components.

You might only notice it while the tap is running at first.

Mixer Tap Won’t Stop Dripping

Most mixer taps don’t use the same traditional washer arrangement found in older taps.

A worn or damaged internal cartridge can cause the mixer to drip, become difficult to operate or stop shutting the water off properly.

Tap Leaking Under the Sink

If the top of the tap looks fine but you’re finding water inside the cupboard underneath, the issue may be with the tap connections, flexible hoses, seals or the tap body itself.

This is worth investigating promptly because hidden water underneath cabinetry can cause considerably more trouble than a visible drip into the sink.

Outdoor Tap Keeps Leaking

Outdoor taps take plenty of abuse.

A tap that won’t fully shut off may need servicing, reseating or replacement depending on its condition.

Tap Repair or Tap Replacement?

We don’t replace tapware just because it’s leaking.

If the tap itself is in good condition and suitable replacement components are available, repairing it is often the sensible option.

However, replacement may make more sense when the tap is:

  • badly corroded
  • physically damaged
  • repeatedly leaking after previous repairs
  • difficult to operate
  • using unavailable or obsolete components
  • leaking through the tap body
  • simply at the end of its useful life

If replacement is the better option, Born Plumbing can remove the existing tapware and install suitable new taps or mixers.

What We Check When Repairing a Leaking Tap

Rather than assuming every leak needs another washer, we identify where the water is coming from and why the tap isn’t sealing correctly.

Depending on the tap, this can involve checking:

  1. Washers and seals: Worn components can prevent older taps from shutting off properly.

  2. Tap seats: Replacing a washer alone may not solve the problem if the surface it seals against is damaged.

  3. Mixer cartridges: Modern mixer taps can develop worn or faulty cartridges that cause dripping or poor operation.

  4. O-rings and spindles: Leaks around handles and moving parts can come from worn seals.

  5. Flexible hoses and connections: Water underneath a kitchen or bathroom sink isn’t always coming from the tap outlet itself.

  6. Tap condition: We’ll also check whether repairing existing tapware is genuinely worthwhile or whether replacement will provide a better result.
